Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty FAQ

Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty Charlotte FAQ

At Carolina Facial Plastics in Charlotte, patients who seek to correct a straightforward nasal issue can be excellent candidates to undergo a non-surgical rhinoplasty using dermal fillers. To better help our potential patients understand the procedure; Dr. Kulbersh has compiled a list of the most frequently asked questions surrounding the subject.

Q: Are there any non-surgical procedures to make my nose smaller, or is surgery my only option?
A: The purpose of rhinoplasty or any cosmetic procedure is to create a symmetrical, harmonious appearance to the face. In cases where the nose has small defects – for instance, an indentation, bump or sharp angle – I will use dermal fillers such as Restylane or Juvederm to even out the depressions and make the nose look smoother and more balanced. These injectables can last for up to a couple of years. However, they cannot decrease the length of the nose.

If your main concern is avoiding surgery, the photo you provided shows that you might benefit by having a board-certified facial plastic surgeon augment your chin with fillers or even collagen stimulators such as Sculptra or Raidesse. This would create a profile that is more in harmony with your nose at its present length. However, if you are most interested in shortening your nose, then rhinoplasty is your best option.

Q:  What is a non-surgical rhinoplasty?
A:  Dermal fillers, Restylane, Juvederm, or Perlane, are injected into the nose to add volume.  This volume can augment a depression, the entire dorsum, or can be used to hide a nasal “hump”.

Q: Am I a candidate?
A: Patients that have medium to thick skin that have not had rhinoplasty surgery in the past are the best candidates for a non-surgical procedure.  This can only be used to improve a limited amount of conditions.  To determine whether you are a good candidate for a rhinoplasty with fillers, schedule a consultation at the Charlotte office.

Q: Is a non-surgical rhinoplasty permanent?
A: This process is not permanent, though the results can be long lasting depending on the type of filler used. The results typically last for 9-12 months. During your initial consultation, I’ll be able to better understand your needs and come up with the best procedure plan to meet your long-standing goals.

Q: What is the cost of a liquid rhinoplasty in Charlotte?
A: Because each patient requires a unique approach to the procedure, it’s difficult to say exactly what the cost will be before an examination during an initial consultation. During that time, I’ll be able to better assess the type of filler best suited to achieve your goals.

Q: What kinds of nasal issues can a non-surgical rhinoplasty fix?
A: One of the main uses of injectable fillers in the nose is to camouflage the profile (dorsal) hump by either filling below and/or above the hump.  In patients with ethnic noses, it can be a great tool to help define their nasal bridge.  A non-surgical rhinoplasty is also great for smoothing out nasal imperfections like dents, and for fixing minor symmetry problems. If a patient has had too much of their nasal dorsum taken down during a previous procedure, it can also be an excellent tool to smooth out any small irregularities in the early months after a surgical rhinoplasty.

Q: Is there any downtime after the procedure?
A: After I inject the fillers into your nose, you’re free to continue about with your everyday activities. In fact, the procedure itself only takes between 20-30 minutes. Because there is absolutely no surgery involved, there is no recovery necessary. You may notice tenderness at the injection site, but that will clear up during the first week post-procedure.

Q: Is this procedure going to impact my breathing?
A: The non-surgical procedure will not negatively affect breathing since the injections are superficial and will not change the nasal cavity.

Q: Does a non-surgical rhinoplasty hurt?
A: This is not a painful procedure, although everyone’s pain tolerance is different. The tip of the nose, the nostrils and the columnella are tender areas to inject. However, Dr. Kulbersh has many methods of pain control including the use of a blunt tip cannula which is designed to cause much less damage to the tissue of the skin.
